TMTA Southern branch invites all instrumental and vocal students of TMTA members to participate in an afternoon of music making and performances at the 2023 TMTA Music Awards. 

A friendly and supportive environment, the TMTA Music Awards is a great opportunity for students to perform to a small audience and share in live performances together. Musician and educator, Wendy Lorenz will provide feedback and adjudicate the awards in three sections on the day:

  • Mme. Helen George Awards (Grades 3-5)
  • Ann McGarry Award (Grade 6-8)
  • Graeme Buchanan Award (Diploma)

Students need not have completed an exam to participate in the sections/awards. A copy of the music should be provided for the adjudicator on the day and entry forms must be received prior to the performance day.

Venue operators and TMTA volunteers will observe Covid Plans to promote the safety and wellness of all attendees. 

Audience entry is $10 per adult (children are free). $20 student participant fee's are to be paid at the door on the day. 

Entries close on Friday 25th August and must be emailed to Lynette Smith.

WENDY LORENZ

Wendy Lorenz has enjoyed an active career as both pianist and teacher, performing extensively throughout Australia and overseas and appearing for many major radio and television networks in Europe and Asia. A ‘Student of the Year’ graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium and Beethoven Bicentenary Medallion recipient (awarded internationally by the West German Government), she has also belonged to a number of notable chamber ensembles including the highly acclaimed New England Ensemble, Australian Piano Trio, Young Sydney Piano Trio, Phoenix Ensemble and Lanyon Trio. In the solo realm she has appeared as concerto soloist with many of Australia’s leading orchestras including commercial releases with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Also active as a music educator, she has taught at the NSW Conservatorium, the Australian National University and the Universities of New England and Southern Queensland, where she was also Head of Music from 2000 to 2004 inclusive. She has presented workshops, masterclasses and piano teaching seminars throughout Australia and overseas, (with guest residencies in China, Singapore, Malaysia and the USA).

A current member and past National Chair of the Australasian Piano Pedagogy Conference Committee, she is also a Federal Examiner for the Australian Music Examinations Board and Artistic Director of the prestigious Australian National Piano Award. Wendy recently relocated to the southern Gold Coast from where she continues her teaching, examining, adjudicating and consulting activities.

Whilst in Hobart this year, Wendy will deliver a seminar for teachers and students on Preparing for a Diploma, Friday 1st September 8pm with AMEB Tasmania.
