About Me
Michael Power is a collaborative pianist and professional musician in Hobart. He has taught piano for the past two decades at prominent institutions in Newcastle, including Newcastle Grammar School and University of Newcastle, and has given masterclasses, seminars and adjudicated on panels during this time. He has studied with prominent international pedagogues and studied both in Australia and Italy. He has performed with well-known Australian classical artists and premiered works by prominent Australian composers. Michael has served actively on Boards with the Newcastle Youth Orchestra and led teams with the Music Teachers Association of New South Wales (MTA NSW). Since moving to Hobart in February 2020, Michael serves as the President of the Tasmanian Music Teachers’ Association in 2023, he maintains a piano teaching studio, and works as a collaborative pianist in the Hobart Eisteddfod, Festival of Voices, performs with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (TSO), TSO Chorus, MONA arts program, university and public recitals, and is an examiner with the AMEB. Michael is an experienced administrator, having convened conferences both in-person and online, and worked closely with arts organisations such as MTA NSW and the Hunter Writers Centre to develop stronger governance.
