It has come to the attention of the State Council that all studio music teachers will need to have gained registration with the Department of Justice to be able to work with children by 1 April 2015.
The registration period began on 1st October and all members will have to be processed before 1 April 2015. This fact sheet explains the two stage process.
The initial process is online and once that has been completed satisfactorily, members will then have documentation to take to a Service Tasmania Centre to complete the process which costs $103.60. The entire process of achieving registration takes between 4 and 6 weeks to complete. The registration is valid for 3 years.
Committee members of TMTA also as volunteers have to be registered. There is an option on the online application form to choose ‘Both Employment and Volunteering’ as the purpose for which registration is required. Choosing this option will mean the volunteer committee members, who are also studio teachers, are covered for both. The fee for this option is $103.60.
All teachers will require registration (in their role as a teacher) in 2016. Current registered classroom teachers, who also teach privately in a studio, will need to be registered by 1 April 2015 if the private tuition is not part of their teaching role.
The first stage online application is available at here.
