TMTA’s 65th Conference
Paul Myatt is a passionate teacher, performer, coach, author, composer and workshop facilitator. His purpose and passion is to continue to learn and work with people to assist them in developing skills to achieve their goals. Paul is a director of Forte School of Music and co-created the Forte School of Music Teacher Training programmes which thousands of teachers have participated in. He is also the co-writer of Theory Fundamentals theory text books which are published in Australia and the United Kingdom. He is a regular contributor to the Australian Piano Teacher and the Piano Professional (European Piano Teachers’ Association) Magazines.
The sessions he will present are as follows:
Whole Body Learning (WBL) for Piano
Based on Orff-Schulwerk, Kodály & Dalcroze, WBL strategies can be used at any level of piano teaching. New research has shown that WBL strategies are the most brain enhancing activities for an optimized learning environment. This first session will provide examples of how the approach can be implemented in lessons for students preparing for exams eg. AMEB Piano for Leisure & Comprehensive
Complementing Your Teaching Strategies
Easy ways to implement WBL strategies in your studio. WBL is not new, what’s new is applying the approach in teaching piano. In this session you’ll learn how to create a plan using pieces from the AMEB Piano syllabus.
Aural and Theory Tool Kit
Introducing teachers to a range of Aural & theory strategies that scaffold student learning for functional aural and theoretical knowledge. Functional knowledge includes: use of voice, understanding harmony, embodied rhythmic development and developing good sight reading skills.
